Frequently Asked Questions

What is a curtain side truck?

A curtain side truck is a flatbed truck surrounded by curtains or square frames on each side. With a curtain side truck, the cargo box is fixed permanently on the chassis of the truck. The curtains are attached to rails, poles, and runners at the top and sides. This allows them to be retracted and let down whenever the driver deems it necessary.

Usually, the curtains are made from vinyl and PVC. They can be lifted in the front, the back, and the sides of the trailer. On a curtain side truck, it’s fairly simple to load and unload a variety of different loads. Because the driver can draw in the side curtains, it’s easy to access the goods on the truck from any angle.

What are the benefits of a curtain side truck?

Curtain side trucks are extremely flexible. When they come to a stop, they operate like a flatbed truck. The driver can simply retract the curtains and then load and unload goods from any side of the truck. Unlike a flatbed truck, however, curtain side trucks also provide protection from the elements. Drivers do not have to deal with the messy, time-consuming process of securing a tarp over their load like they would have to do with a flatbed truck. But the retractable curtains allow them to access any part of the load at any time. They are very useful in settings where a driver is making frequent stops along one route to load and unload.

What are common uses for curtain side trucks?

Curtain side trucks, also referred to as curtainsiders, can be used to haul almost anything imaginable. They are frequently used to transport material goods, including bricks, insulation, pipes, tile, iron, lumber, and machinery. Because they are fully protected from the elements, they can be used to transport food and plants. Fruits, vegetables, restaurant equipment, canned goods, and more can be transported safely. They can be used for all different load sizes, from small loads that do not take up the full space of the truck to larger and complete loads. This is because the curtain side truck has four-sided access. Curtain side trucks often have a double use as an advertising truck. The empty space on the side of the trailer is extremely convenient for placing an ad.

What can be customized on a curtain side truck?

Curtain side trucks provide endless opportunities for customization. Most can be ordered in customized lengths, widths, and heights. The type of flooring in the truck can also be custom-made with popular flooring options such as, apitong wood, smooth steel, and diamond plate steel. The trucks typically come with either single- or double-sided curtain sides, along with other options for interior and exterior LED lights, backup cameras, liftgate options, hitches, forklift support, and more.

The outside of a curtain side truck also provides ample opportunity for customization. Thanks to the large, sleek sides of this vehicle, curtain side trucks are the perfect place to advertise a company’s name, slogan, or logo. What are common lengths for curtain side trucks?

Curtain side trucks are generally anywhere from 12 feet to 28 feet long, and between 96 inches to 102 inches wide. The length and width of the truck will depend on what it’s hauling. No matter the size, curtain size trucks are perfect for hauling a wide variety of materials. Large curtainsiders can be used to transport building and construction materials such as molding, windows, doors, pipes, and lumber. They can be used to haul mowers, mulch, shovels, and other kinds of landscaping equipment. Even food and agricultural equipment can be safely transported in a curtain side truck. Smaller trucks may be used to transport partial loads with multiple drop-off points.
