What is the most common mechanism for unloading a dump truck?

Dump trucks utilize a variety of mechanisms for unloading. The most common style of dump truck is the standard dump truck. This truck features a body attached to a chassis. The bed of the truck is then raised with a hydraulic mechanism. The back of the bed is usually hinged, allowing for materials to be dumped out of the back of the truck. This style of dump truck is ideal for many applications, heavy-duty enough for the average job.

Another common mechanism for unloading dump trucks is the side dump. Side dump trucks use a hydraulic lift similar to a standard dump truck, but rather than dumping materials behind the truck, this truck actually tilts the truck body to the right or left. In many cases, one of the sidewalls on the dump truck will also lift during dumping.

Ultimately, a dump truck is simply a body affixed to a chassis. Which chassis is chosen is up to the team engineering the build.

Things to consider when choosing a cab include the following:

  • Room for passengers: Will the truck often transport workers to job sites? If so, opt for a larger cab.
  • Safety features: From backup cameras to additional mirrors, opt for the right features to keep job sites safer.
